Iowans can learn which cancers are most common in their county

By: Cami Koons The Iowa Cancer Registry plans to deliver county-specific reports to all 99 counties in Iowa and meet with communities to point out particular policies or trends that might be driving higher rates of one particular type of cancer.Mary Charlton, director of the Iowa Cancer Registry, said Iowa continues to have increasing cancer figures where other states are seeing steady or declining rates.

Lifeserve to hold blood drive as part of Law Enforcement Appreciation Week

LifeServe Blood Center is asking community members to show their support for local law enforcement January 6-11, 2025, during the blood center’s annual Blue Blood Drive. A coalition advocating for the passage of a full hands-free driving law. Iowa organizations announced the creation of a new coalition aimed at passing a hands-free while driving law.The End Distracted Driving Iowa Coalition is officially launching a statewide campaign to advocate for a full hands-free driving law in Iowa. Supported by more than 25 organizations representing law enforcement, healthcare, labor, business, transportation, insurance, and state agencies, the coalition aims to make Iowa’s roads safer with the passage of legislation preventing drivers from using their phones while driving.
